Description
This cabin-sized timberframe is constructed of all reclaimed barn beams from salvaged Michigan barns. The beams are a variety of types, including oak, maple, hickory, and pine, most of it perhaps 100 years old. A few of these timbers were hand-hewn, but most were originally sawn. The outside faces have been re-sawn to ensure they are straight, flat, and true, and the beams are crafted with a mix of traditional and hybrid timberframe joinery methods (we use power tools). This specific floor plan includes one large room on the main level and a loft above the rear half of the cabin. However, the main level may be divided with walls to make a separate bedroom and bath. Normally, exterior walls would be fastened to the outside of the frame so that all of the interior beam surfaces are visible. Foundation size will be exactly 16' X 20'. The frame is 15' 2" by 19' 2" measured outside-to-outside face. A floor system is not included. Porch beams are available at added cost. Drawings are included and all components are numbered for easy assembly, using a combination of traditional wood pegs and modern log fastening screws. This cabin will make a great guest house, lake cabin, hunting cabin, or historical reconstruction for your early-American antique village (build a replica barn, shop, blacksmith or house from this structure). Shipping costs are not included in this auction.
