Description
This is an extremely unique and beautiful property along the Cangrejal river in the rugged and lush “Gracias a Dios” mountain range, on the on the north coast of Honduras, some 15km from the Caribbean beaches of La Ceiba.  There is a small town of some 1000 inhabitants across the river and up the road.  Because of its isolation the property is secure and peaceful.  In addition to the Cangrejal river bordering the property on the south, the large “Puerto Barrios” creek borders on the west, and there is another smaller creek bordering the property on the east. That makes three of the property boundaries watersheds. Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of the land is that you access it across the Rio Cangrejal via a gondola.  The land is only a 15-20 minute drive from La Ceiba, where you can get just about any amenity you want, and where there is an international airport. The land has approximately 5,000 cocoa trees on it. These were planted 5 years ago and are starting to bear fruit. They have never seen fertilizer or pesticide. It also has approximately 750 mahogany trees, planted approximately 5 years ago, that will be worth a lot of money in another 10-15 years. The majority of the approximately 150 acres is lush jungle. I have spotted toucans, monkeys, a jaguar, lots of beautiful butterflies, and many other animals. There is also varied and beautiful flora, including some enormous trees. There are several springs and small creeks that originate on the property. But perhaps the most appealing aspect of the land is that it has three postcard beautiful waterfalls (refer to  fotos). The water is clean and clear and cool - and it is totally private! I’m telling you, this is a unique property… My idea in purchasing this property was to build an eco-tourism lodge with a functioning cocoa plantation. I was half-way through construction in 1998 when hurricane Mitch hit, and destroyed much of the main house (see fotos). I did not have the money to continue, so went back to California to attend law school. There are now the remnants of the two story 10 bedroom main house, three bungalows, two dormitories, and a gazebo type structure with panoramic view (see fotos). It would not take much to build on these foundations. There is also a stone trail that unites all these structures (see fotos), as well as a ten feet deep spring fed water tank that supplies pressurized drinking water to the entire ranch.  The property also includes a small piece of land on the south side of the Cangrejal river, bordering the road, where there this is a small but very sturdy home, designed to be used as a caretaker/greeting building with parking (see fotos).  I have recently run electricity to the home, which a nonprofit organization is using as an office. In the area are pre-hispanic ruins that have yet to be unearthed (known as “La Colorada”), world class rafting and kayaking on the Cangrejal river (25 yards from your doorstep!), the ability to scuba dive in the Bay Islands 45 minutes away, and junkle trecking (25 feet from your doorstep!) . Like I said, this property is unique, and I love it.  It is amazingly peaceful and serene   Responsibilities are forcing me to move on.  Email me directly (ken (at) kenhutz.com) with any questions about the land or price or payment options.  Foreigners can own land in Honduras, in fee simple (what they call “dominio pleno) and this land has a clear title with all taxes paid.
